During your lifetime, many things can happen to your teeth, causing discolouration, chips and cracks; dental veneers Liverpool are a quick and relatively easy solution to this issue. Uneven or misshapen teeth can also be corrected by having veneers Liverpool attached to your teeth.
What are veneers?
There are essentially two types of veneers currently used by the dental industry; porcelain and composite resin. However, there are sub-categories produced by combining both these materials and a variety of other materials.
Which veneer is right for me?
Deciding on which veneers Liverpool is right for you is a decision that has to be taken after a comprehensive assessment of your condition. At Liverpool Smile Studio, we favour porcelain veneers for a number of reasons. Porcelain veneers are thinner than composite resin veneers, which means that less of your dental enamel needs to be removed when using porcelain veneers. Additionally, porcelain veneers are far more durable, meaning that they will last longer.
Composite resin veneers absorb pigments more readily and can become discoloured over some time. Porcelain is a more natural fit to your normal teeth colour and reflects light better and in a more natural way like your natural teeth, resulting in a glossy look. Our dental team will always discuss and recommend what is right for you, and the final decision is always left up to you.
What is involved?
Porcelain veneers require a two-visit approach; the first is to prepare your teeth, which involves grinding off a thin layer of the front dental enamel of your teeth. The amount removed is equal to the width of the veneer; this ensures that your teeth with the veneers do not protrude beyond your other teeth. Because porcelain veneers are much thinner than other veneers, the amount of dental enamel that needs to be removed is far less. You may request a local anaesthetic for this part of the procedure, but you should not experience too much discomfort.
We will then take an impression of your teeth being treated to allow us to create a veneer that fits exactly. We also utilise a colour comparison chart so that we can match the colour of your veneers to your natural teeth. During the manufacturing process of your veneers, a temporary cover can be placed over your teeth for protection. During your second visit, your veneers will be checked against your teeth to ensure that they fit and match your teeth correctly. We will then apply a dental adhesive and carefully attach the veneers, making any adjustments necessary to ensure a correct fit.
Care and attention
You may experience some discomfort for a day or two when brushing, but after a few days, this will subside. Maintenance of your veneers is the same as that of your natural teeth; regular brushing and flossing. Your routine six-monthly dental visits must be maintained so that our dental team can check on your teeth and your veneers; you should make every effort not to miss any visits.
Durability
Your porcelain veneers should normally last ten years or more with proper maintenance and regular visits to our dental surgery, and you will be able to enjoy your newfound confident smile for many years to come.
