The ideal summer makeover
As with many cosmetic dental procedures, veneers originated in Hollywood. The first versions were not designed to last; they were created to temporarily alter the appearance of an actor’s teeth and would usually drop out after a few takes, because they were bonded in place with denture cement.
However, cosmetic dentists quickly saw the potential to use veneers to create a more long-term solution to smile concerns, and after stars and celebrities started to wear them, their popularity and availability grew rapidly.
Modern veneers are designed to be a fast yet long-lasting way for a dentist to make over your smile’s appearance. A single veneer can improve the look of a permanently discoloured, chipped or mildly cracked tooth, whilst a full set can create a smile makeover, improving issues with spacing, uniformity, and whiteness.
A veneer is a micro-thin porcelain shell bonded over the front surfaces of the front teeth. They can be used in both the lower and upper jaw. Unlike other tooth restorations, such as crowns, there is very little work required on your teeth before veneers are placed, meaning that healthy tooth structure will be preserved.
A very thin amount of enamel will be removed from the surface of your teeth under local anaesthetic to aid with the bonding process. Each veneer will be made to the same thickness as the amount of enamel removed, with the exception of veneers covering cracked teeth. In that case they will be reinforced in the cracked area.
Veneer placement requires a minimum of two appointments at our Liverpool dental practice. If you are having a complete smile makeover, additional visits will be required.
Only when you are totally happy will your dentist bond your veneers in place with a strong dental bonding agent.
