Overcrowded teeth may be one of the most common orthodontic issues we see in the Liverpool Smile Studio. Thankfully, it’s something that dentists have been able to successfully treat for more than 100 years with braces Liverpool!
Metal braces, the backbone of orthodontic care, have truly come of age, crossing the century mark and fixing countless tens of thousands of smiles. We are experts at providing orthodontic care to our patients in a range of ways and discuss the appropriate use of braces below.
When is orthodontic treatment appropriate?
While a treatment is not without its risks, limitations and costs, it has to be justified in the benefits it brings to our patients’ lives. And while overcrowding is not just a trivial or cosmetic problem, if you have particularly poorly aligned teeth, it can make it significantly harder to eat and the modifications or abnormal jaw position that has to be adopted will have long-term implications. Temporomandibular joint disorder being the most common repetitive strain disorder that adults with misaligned teeth end up suffering from that we see in our practice.
Even partially misaligned teeth will result in increased wear and tear on certain tooth surfaces as only a few will mesh. The teeth which are being overused will erode faster and be more susceptible to cavities on their upper surfaces.
When is it not?
By providing lots of nooks and crannies for food to get caught in and for plaque to build-up on, fixed braces might not be appropriate for those with poor oral hygiene, as the risks of increased cavities outweigh the benefits.
Misalignment, where teeth are pushed out of the normal dental arch overlapping or are so crowded they have twisted, may mean that headgear is usually required This uses a small number of surgical pins inserted into the jawbone as leverage points from which teeth can be evenly spaced out across the dental arch. Treatments are longer than standard brace treatments and usually end with a period of time using standard braces Liverpool and retainer.
On the opposite end of the scale, braces Liverpool are ineffective at correcting very small movements less than a millimetre, as they require pressure on the teeth and the archwire that simply cannot be delivered over such small distances. To correct such small cosmetic misalignments other options need to be considered by our dentist. This is where veneers can come in. Although usually placed over a tooth, they can be fitted slightly overlapping; this means the veneer can be placed strategically, giving the appearance of perfectly aligned teeth to a slightly crooked smile by using a slightly wider veneer to close a gap.
Financing dental care costs
The cost of these treatments can be substantial and will extend over many months. For such expenses, as we understand this can be a challenge to household finances, we provide 0% interest repayment finance allowing you to spread the cost of your care with borrowing options depending on credit status.
